Dogs quickly develop their own communication style with you. My little yorkie licks my face a certain way when he's thirsty. Will do a yawn style thing when he's satisfied. Will go to a specific spot if hungry. Will bark a certain way to be picked up.

my dog looks at me and rolls his eyes, gets jealous when i give my neighbor's dog too much attention,

and when he's lovey dovey........sits in my lap

I saw this documentary where some people raised some cubs and released them back in the wild. The poor lions were so sad for a while but they finally learned they weren't going to be allowed to come back. But when they had their own cubs, they brought them back to the house and played the same games they played as cubs. Very cute.
