    Cellphone question...

I was thinking about bringing a cellphone with me to use on SXM. I know in other countries you can take an unlocked GSM phone and get a pre-paid SIM card for it. How's it work there? Any particular phone that I should bring, or do they all seem to work?

    Thanksss...

I'd just buy it here. The prices are decent and it'll work. Don't mess with it if you don't have to. But if you already have a GSM phone at your disposal and aren't using it anymore, bring it down and see if it works. You've got nothing to lose.

And for those "techies" who demand the best.... keep in mind we just got SMS text messaging a few months ago, so your camera phone won't work here nor will your WAP enabled phone.

Correct answer is yes but realistically, no.

Verizon works on CDMA but we don't have CDMA here so the phone will jump down to Analog mode which will drain the battery within a day even on standby. ECC set up your phone(if it isn't lock, etc) but it's really not worth the trouble of recharging everyday. And ECC costs more than UTS Chippie(which is GSM only).

if you still have time left on a verizon contract and need to get out of it before moving here but dont want to pay the cancalation fee......you can call them up and tell them you are moving outside thier service area...they will ask for proof...acceptance letter will work and they will let you get out of your contract with no hassels....i think this may apply for cingular and att....i am not sure....i am sure for verizon...worked for me....i had 1.5 years left on the contract....

So did you get to keep the phone? If that's the case, I'd just go buy a nice phone right before I come down here and cancel the contract... Oh wait, I'm not telling you to cheat the system. No really, I'm not.
