Dear colleagues at AUC:
I am a student at Ross Univ. In Dominica. I plan on coming down to visit St. Maarten in mid-October after one of our exams. I am looking for some advice for the best hotels/resorts to stay for a weekend. It will be for a group of single guys just looking to have fun. We need a place close to bars/clubs/restaurants but in a safe location but not too expensive. Any help would be appreciated.

During hurricane season, look at Travelocity - you'll find rates there as good as anywhere else... when you do find a place that's affordable, then call and find out if they have special rates for people who live in the Caribbean.

When in Montserrat and SXM, we did the same and usually save about 50 bucks - and had pretty good luck finding places for $100 a night or so that we'd split.

Caravanserai hotel located by the sunset beach bar and Bliss night club...$90 a night. Very nice and the bars, etc are all in walking distance...

Or Maho Resort

Travel Inn is located in the heart of Simpson Bay, where a lot of bars, restaurants, clubs, etc. are. I've heard they have good rates, but I'm not sure how nice the place is. Can anyone add to this?

But I think Caravanserai is the best overall place to stay in terms of price and location. They have discounts for medical students and prospective medical students...whether or not this applies to Ross, I don't know... They don't check school IDs or anything though..( )
