CONCERN ABOUT RATS AND MICE!

Hi, my name is Samar. Are there any rats or mice to be easily seen anywhere in St. Marteen or anywhere on campus?! Do they even exist on the island? I'm just wondering bc I hate rats and mice and looking at even one traumatizes, scares, and disgusts me soo much as if I'm about to die! Are there any rats and mice or even squirells and chipmunks that get into any apartments or dorms easily?! Are there dorms and apartments that anyone could get easily where none of those rodent type animals enter in the housing or anywhere near the housing area?!

.....

Uh, yes...sorry for the bad news but there are rats and mice here. they aren't very aggressive but we have had one in our apartment...we just waited until it went back into the little hole in the wall (that's how he got in) and then we silicon-caulked him in there...

beware of fire

When the ants came through the wall I burned them all! When the cockroach came and poked his head out, I burned him to. If any rats want any of this I have my lighter and hair spray ready!! Consider this your warning rodents!

Haven't seen any

Doesn't seem to me like there are any more rats & mice here than back in the U.S.

Certainly at school there are none.

By the way, mice holes are best plugged up with steel wool as they do not eat it.

Die Die Die

I just had a mouse in my house last week. I named him Stuart Little.
(I live in the country in the Southwestern U.S., so it's really easy to get deer mice here.)

When I plugged a hole in the base-board with steel wool, the crafty little bugger just chewed a new hole right next to the steel wool.

So I put out snap traps, and caught one, and then threw bar bait into every hole, cabinet, wall, etc. in the house. Got his little buddy, too, then!
Unfortunately, though, the little rodent died in the wall in the kitchen....took the whole week for the smell to go away.

We had a lady down the road die of Hantavirus recently, so I cleaned every surface and droppings with bleach and masks and gloves. Probably overkill, but I got no desire to die in 3-5 days. 8)

Mice

We had some mice. We had a rat that used to climb the banana tree in our back yard. He was actually quite pretty . Fur looked soft and brown, and nice white belly. I liked to watch him climb around. Never had any in the house, but had plenty outside. What SXM needs is some snakes, that'll help the mouse problem. I don't think the mongooses (or is it mongeese) would allow any appreciable snake population. G

Rats and Centipedes......

I don't usually post but I had to on this one......When my spouse and I were on the rock we had a rat gnaw though a nylon screen in our kitchen.....we also had some problems with centipedes (UGH!). Our dutch landlord told us if you catch a live one (either the 'pedes or the rats), wrap them up in a newspaper, soak 'em with gasoline, and light them on fire.....they will scream and their screams will frighten all the other critters away.......we thought he was kidding at first, but he was totally serious!
