Can someone please tell me what classes are offered
for the first term? I assume it is Anatomy, Biochem and
Embryology or Histology? Is that correct?
I will be enrolling in Jan or May of next year.

Your classes are Anatomy, Biochem,Biostats,Embryo and i think history of medicine. Basicallly the only two you really have to worry about are biochem and anatomy

Worry about all of them. With the new block scheduling implmented, you don't really have any room to blow off classes like Biostats or Hx of Med since these classes may just have one test...that means if you blow it, you'll repeat it. Anatomy and Biochem will definitely be the meat of your studies though, however there may be some changes in the curriculum which may integrate Anatomy and Embryo.Originally Posted by PAC

What exactly does that entail ?
Why would / does it mean you might get only one test per class ?

I won't go into detail regarding the block scheduling...it has been covered many times on here, better than how I would explain it, so you can do a search if you want to read up on it. Regarding the one test per class: right now, the first semesters only have History of Med for a month, then Biostats for a month...and both of those classes only had 2 exams I think...midterm and final. Before block scheduling, these two classes lasted the entire semester, only meeting one/two days a week or so. I don't remember how many exams those classes had back then...but with the way block scheduling is working now, some of the lighter weighted classes are only meeting for a few weeks instead of the entire semester which could change the # of exams a class once had. I am not sure if this applies to any other classes/semesters other than a few classes in 1st semester.Originally Posted by torb3n
Like WifeofDr2B said, the blocks have been covered. My impression that the 1st sems had only one exam for the Hx of Med and Biostats was based on the fact that they were the only exams listed on the FINALS schedule we received. If in fact, there are midterms for each of these, then that certainly eases the pressure (although not by much...).Originally Posted by torb3n

Hx of Med had 2 exams-not difficult though it was necessary to memorize a few meaningless facts in order to pass the exam. Biostats has 2 exams as well as does Embryo which we havent started yet.
Block scheduling has been discussed previously but here is just an example of what our 2nd block schedule has been:
Friday 830 Anatomy written
Friday 1pm Biostats
Monday 830 Biochemistry
Monday 1 pm Anatomy practical
As my fellow students pointed out earlier, it is not really an option to blow any of the classes off with this schedule.
Have a good day!
