You'll throw off the entire order of students who go on stage and you'll have a lot of unhappy school administrators.
If you don't have a legitimate reason not to, you really should go. It's actually worth listening to someone explain the significance of the journey you're about to partake in.

520 points I thought the white coat ceremony was very motivating. We were able to see and hear from students who made it through basic sciences & get helpful advice on how to succeed.
It's the one time when everyone in your class sits together in unity - it's your moment & I don't really understand why anyone wouldn't want to attend.

I think the OP is referring to the ceremony, but I agree that you should also go to the party that night as well.
