Hey all,
I'm part of the Aug. 2004 class. I wanted to know how early we should arrive to the island before classes start? My friend thinks 4 days is enough to get settled there. I would love to have a more informed answer.
Thanks
Joyce

general consenses is that 2-3 weeks is optimal. This gives you time to locate an apartment, get your internet, phone and television set up, find a car, start to know your way around the island a little so that you are feeling less island shock by the time classes start up. People have said that they have done this in just a few days, however a lot of people have posted that they wished they were there sooner.
Also, if you arrive sooner, you might be able to make it to the 5th semester sale and hopefully save a few bucks on set up costs for things you will need in your apartment.
If you are staying in the dorms, I don't think you can move in more than a week before classes start.
JMO, hope it helps.
Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get.
I'd say at least a week. Why come down any later than that? You can get set up into your dorm...or find an apartment for yourself.
Need to get your cell phone set up, internet if you want, car situation if you want, groceries, knick knacks you need to buy before classes start...and familiarize yourself with the island.
I got down here 9 days before school started. I'd say to give yourself a solid week to get yourself set up and get to know people and places around sxm.

The September class is traditionally the largest matriculating class, having about 120 or more students (versus 80 for January and the usual 60+ for May). The answer to your question really depends on wether or not you will be dorming on campus. If "Yes", then 4 days should be enough for you to find transportation to get all of your basic living essentials and set up cel service/internet/cable. If "No", and you are planning on renting an apartment, you may want to getting in ALOT sooner (at least a week to 10 days prior). Since you have a large entering class and a small exiting class, the numbers of available apartments may be scarce. Not to mention you will miss out on the chance to select something that will fit your needs/budgets/tastes and may be relegated to somewhere you may not want to be for at least a semester (problems if you are out in Simpson Bay and DON'T have a car)...Originally Posted by joycemyster
