Thread: Local (St. Maarten) Phone Number

What is the best way to call local phone numbers when I am on the island? Is it a calling card? Or is it possible to buy a pay as you go cell phone? Any other ideas? Thx!

The easiest way is to get a local cell phone. They're all pay as you go. There should be vendors on campus some time at the beginning of the semester. You could also get a used phone from students.

I think the whole two years I spent on the island I never called a local number...

What about landlines... Do people use vonage (would this have to be set up before going to SXM)?

i used vonage and loved it...only limiting factor was the internet reliability at times. definitely set it up before you go there. lots of people use skype and it should be cheaper.......i just bought an ooma from costco which is like vonage but without a monthly fee...yay for toys
