    How rough is ICM?

ICM starts next week and I was browsing through the syllabus for giggles and I noticed that these professors seem to be taking this class really seriously with intense quizzes and all those workshops and such. Is ICM really that bad of a timesucker?

Also, we don't have to be experts in using all those strange new equipment right? Cause I have never used any of those in my life.(hell I can't even spell some of them!

It's really not that bad. Just go to all the sessions, skim/quick-read the reading assignments and you should be fine. Probably the biggest complaint about ICM is not how hard/rough it is but how much of a time sink it can be.

And nobody will expect you to know how to use the instruments right now, you'll learn all that in the coming months/years.

ICM, to quote the director, is becoming "much more academic". I imagine that the course will be vastly different by the time you get the 5th semester.

Today, as the previous poster has pointed out, the biggest problem with ICM is that it takes out your study time in the afternoon. Although people do fail ICM, it's usually more for attendance reasons and less for academic.

Very similar....somewhat useful, mostly a huge waste of time. Since AUC has yet to figure out a proper medical school schedule, you're really going to hate it in 5th semester.

Found out this week that the School is going to require the Med Micro Shelf in the 5th semester instead of making it optional for 3rd.

I wouldn't be surprised if an upside-down classical Latin recitation of the Hippocratic Oath in the nude is required by the time I get to 5th...

The shelves are supposed to be good practice though for 5th semester... I'm guessing the information it tests should be run of the mill knowledge for us by then...

Actually, I wouldn't worry too much about the med micro shelf. The questions are VERY similar to Dr. S's exam questions. I did not appreciate her at all until I took the shelf and saw how dead on she really was. Also, micro is a huge part of the USMLE (second only to path, and about equal with pharm). So, whether you like it or not, try to find a way to like it....it's important.
