I wouldn't mind the insane hours.. but the fact that I only get a soda and tuna sandwich to last me from the time I wake up until 7-8pm is not making me happy.

DRDRWMD is on a distinguished road
I survived my first call, and although I did not get any sleep it was better than call as a medical student. As a resident, I knew what I needed to do and was so busy that I actually did not notice the effects of not sleeping. As a medical student, I had to follow around residents most of the time and I was usually quite bored (unless there was a meaty trauma or something exciting to see) and continuously monitoring my watch to see what time I could get out of there. As a resident, I do see what I can do better for next time to increase my efficiency and make sure all the work, which needs to be accomplished is done in a timely manner.

Those are easy when I am not trying to sleep and still at the desk, but when I try to lay down for a bit, then it ain't too much fun. I forgot how much post-call symptoms resemble post-clubbing hangover day. I suppose if I would just let myself sleep all day, I would feel better, but then I do not want to be up all night. I would rather get a good solid night's sleep to keep me on a human sleep schedule until next call. I wonder if it is bad to schedule gym day on post-call day. Unfortunately, my hospital does not have a gym in the hospital to provide a place to exercise while on call, although I don't know if any hospital offers those kinds of amenities.
