In searching, no one really recommends any Histology or Embryo books for first semester... Does this mean that we don't need them? Or if we do does anyone have any suggestions for which books to get?
Thanks!

515 points Histo I would definitely say does not need any books. Some people liked the Langman's Embryo book that is assigned. It has decent summaries and images that might be useful for studying. I bought my Langman's used from another student but didn't really use it much, though.
511 points Wheater's histology is awesome- it goes into as much detail as Dr. F (not less, not more) and every section is 10 pages long- each page is a full size histo slide with a little caption. You can go through it quick.
I didnt get much from Langmans (which sucks cause you wont get much from class notes either unless you annotate as fast as you can write during lecture) but some people swear by the chapter summaries. There is a big embryoogy textbook thats not condensed like langmans is, I find that although the chapters are longer, things are explained a lot betteer so you only needed to read it once (and had more and better diagrams) I dont remember what it is.
510 points Having just took Embryo and Histo, I would recommend not getting the Histo book and just checking out the Langmanns book from the library. You will freak out when you get the two a day lectures and feel overwhelmed, but in the end, this block ends up being the best for many. Just wait and see.
Do not buy any books before coming to the island. Upper semester students are desperate to get rid of the books and will be more than happy to sell them to you at rates that are far below what you will pay online. The library sells many donated textbooks for $2 at the beginning of the semester (but these go fast).
As for BRS or other books, I have heard rumors that these (and many other) books are available in digital .pdf format. If you happen to discover where these gems are hidden, I have heard that those digital books are really handy.
514 points I'm going to concur. In histo, if you have Dr. F, you will not need extra. If you don't have Dr. F, the notes will still be available to you on the school network. Embryo is ~3-4 weeks, and it's a waste to buy a book for it when the library has ample copies, on top of the availability of langman's embryo for $5 wherever you look. I've even seen abandoned copies, it's so common.
don't buy books for either; histo just go over Dr. F's notes, for embryo check out the last page of the heart checklist packet Dr. N passes out in wet lab during thorax and you'll be fine.
Are you ready for your edumacation?

I already have a Wheater's Histology from undergrad. Are you saying it wouldn't be worth the added weight to bring it then?
512 points is it BRS physiology 2nd edition...cause I found that online in pdf format
