What's it like to bring your Wife, etc.?

I'm hoping to get some feedback regarding what it's like to bring your wife, kid(s), and dog(s) to the island for 2 years.

    Students have done it right?

    Where do they live?

What can one expect to pay to rent a house?

    Any tips or advice?

    Thanks to any replies!

There's a spouse club that does a great job with these issues. You can run a search to get the contact info and the web site.

My wife and daughter are coming here next semester. At first I though that it wouldn't be a good place for them to live, but now I see there are others who also brought their families here. The Spouses Organization is really good about helping with everything as far as making the transition; however, the bookwork is a different story.

I have my wife and daughter here with me, as well as our dog, and we have no issues at all. The spouses org is great, and very supportive, and my wife has made a lot of good friends here.

We live in a 2br/2ba townhouse about 2 minutes from campus, and we pay about $1850 monthly, and about $300/month on utils (but we run our air almost all the time, and have 2 going all night long).

I can't imagine them not being here with me. It's a great support system, and its great to come home to your family every day. PM me if you have any specific questions.

Bring them if you can afford it. They are a great support system as mentioned above. Plus who wouldn't want to live on a caribbean island for a bit.

My wife and son came with me after 1st semester, and stayed the whole time. I even "authored" another child while there Interesting I know...

Good Experience, but can get old too for the spouse not having much to do. Make sure to get involved with the spouses club, they are a wonderful group of people.

I appreciate all the replies—thank you.

It's great to hear that it can be done as AUC just became much more of a real option with this information.

I'll make contact with the spouses organization but would also be interested in more feedback here too.

    Thanks again.

My wife and I are doing just fine living on the island. We spend about $1500 on rent&utilities per month... about $400-$500 on food.

If you are bringing an animal to the island, most places will charge a little extra per month (the apt. I live charges an extra $250/month to have a dog). I have heard there is a good vet on the island & that name-brand foods are available from Cost-U-Less etc...

The spouse's club has a wide variety of people & do a good job of helping your spouse become acclimated to the island life. I would check into it via the AUC website...

My wife loved the island and we had a baby there. We all had a very good time.

I am apart of the spouses org, if you need info I can get it sent to you. Send me your email and I'll forward it to the president. If you have any other questions let me know.
