Is there a Mac repair store on the island? My DVD drive stopped working. It will read a software program sometimes but never a movie or game. I asked my sisters boyfriend back home and he had the same problem and said it cost 300 to repair! did this happen to anyone?!? I need movies to take a break!

someone had the same or very similar problem not too long ago. search the thread as I dunno if it was ever resolved. good luck

There is place that does mac warranty work in Simpson Bay, across from Top Carrot and Jimbo's. If you get to Cappuccinos, you went to far.

this close to break I would hold off and take it to a real apple store... the guy in simpson bay is friendly and appears to know what he's doing, but a friend of mine got her macbook back in worse shape (some physical damage and still no HD fix)

I would just make sure you are very clear with him what is to be expected and what he plans on doing.... and then check it clearly when he returns you the computer in his store

try not to use the repair store on the island unless you in dire need, it takes forever and DVD drive isn't essential, it can wait till you get home

Any piece of electronic equipment can break. Macs are just less likely to have issues. And, when they do, they have the top rated tech support of any computer manufacturer. You can't wait until you go home to drop by a dell or HP store and have their computers fixed while you wait.

i know what ur talking about. i loved my mac book but i dropped it two weeks before i got to ecu. had to go back to a pc and i hate it.

thanks for the advise everyone! This Mac is actually a hand-me-down from my Dad. I've hated it since I've gotten it, its given me nothing but trouble. My dad said I'd get used to it but it's been 3 months now!
I'm hoping that loan money + x-mas money = sony!
