Canadians at AUC, how do we get home?

I'm a prospective student from Canada. Canadian med schools are extremely hard to get into so I've had to look outside of our borders. For the Canadians at AUC, what are your plans? Do you hope to get back to Canada? If so, what is the process and how hard is it?

What's your specific question? How do you get home for the breaks? (Fly, I suppose, unless you're a magnificent swimmer and fast runner.) How do you do transfer to a Canadian med school after spending time here? Not sure (not a Canadian) but I suspect the trend follows that of US med schools, i.e. not likely. How do you get into residency/practice in Canada after graduating from AUC? Again, not entirely sure but I suspect it's similar to the US situation... you get a residency, and you practice. I really don't know if there are significant differences in accreditation for US vs. Canadian grads, but generally speaking for a bit of extra work you can get yourself accredited in many places (the UK, for instance).

difficult but doable. as far as i know you take the mcqee exams and you can practice. if you want residency there it is very difficult to get from what people have said. the bright spot maybe ontario, which is supposedly accepting the usmle exams as qualifications to practice so look into that.

what many physicians and nurses actually do is work in michigan and jumpo the border every day home. you make more money in the states

For detailed info, do a search of this forum and the Canadian IMG forum that's also on this site.

To return to Canada, you have to:

-write the Canadian licensing exams (MCCEE, MCCQE1, MCCQE2)

-do a residency in Canada or its equivalent in the US (length is sometimes an issue)

    and

-take the Canadian specialty exams for your specialty

Ontario is going to start accepting USMLE this december, so there may come a time when doing both sets of exams isn't necessary.

For more info on the Canadian licensing exams, check out the Royal College websites by specialty, as well as the MCC website www.mcc.ca and for info on residency in Canada, check out the CARMS website www.carms.ca (there is a ton of info on these sites, but you have to dig for it).
    Suffering is optional.
