Thread: School Canceled Tomorrow Because of the Hurricaine

Just received word that school has been canceled for tomorrow because of Hurricane Omar. My friend just came from Dr. Y (Dean of Basic Science) and confirmed.


ADD: No Official Email has been sent out yet... so make sure you get it before you act on it... however, the email is coming.

That's correct, most likely no class Thursday. At 2:00 tomorrow afternoon, the storm is still supposed to be over 250 miles away, and the winds are only extending about 90 miles out. Not sure exactly why they closed for tomorrow, but likely because of golf course flooding. It doesn't take a hurricane to stop people from getting to class!

Having been through multiple hurricanes, schools often close 12- 24 hours before it hits to allow people to prepare: buy water and non-perishable food, gas up cars, go to the bank to get cash before the electricity goes out and the ATMs go down, generally batten down hatches. Might not be much for students in apartments to do but faculty and staff might have property to secure.

I'm sure it helps that our Basic Science Dean told us that she has an intense fear of hurricanes .... she might be on the plane out of here tomorrow morning

I heard that the Government has closed all schools today. And yes, it's to give us time to prepare.

any idea on how the lost days are gonna be made up?

I will be pretty bitter if they take away study days from our finals week to make up for this.

My guess is either saturday classes or 7 AM classes. Entirely a guess, however.

5th semester has comp on Thursday and blocks on Monday. I wonder what happens with that?
