Not only AUC students are robbed and being attacked, local people who are working hard (Yes SOME DO, even if it's hard to beleive) and trying to live peacefully on this island, are also suffering from it. I used to never lock my house or my car, I was able to walk anywhere, anytime of the day or night and never had a problem whatsoever. That was few years ago. Sint Maarten had changed a lot and unfortunately not in a really good way. Now I feel also upset and angry about all this. It is ruining everybody's daily life, I put iron gates and big locks on every doors and windows, got bad-looking and noisy (but adorable) dogs, and yes I carry a weapon with me (i always have a knife on me that i use it on a daily basis for work and a baseball bat behind the driver seat...just...in...case!). there is nothing to be scared of in SXM, just act responsibly. Going to the very local areas at night has never been a smartest idea...ever. I just hope to change your opinion about us, sint maarteners. I am often hanging out with few of MED students, and I are really enjoying our friendship!
