    AUC electives?

    Simple question...

I know US schools offer electives for their MD students to use their breaks to go on trips to different parts of the world and study medicine (ie. Africa, Malaysia, etc etc)

    Does AUC offer that opportunity?

I don't think anyone has asked that nor have I come across it since I joined this forum...

I know SGU offers it so I hope AUC offers it

If by breaks, you mean holidays, then I'd say it is unlikely given that AUC's semester breaks are barely 2 weeks long. Although I do not have a definitive answer.

I do know that you're allowed to do rotations outside the US, in places like the UK, but that's all I've heard with regards to this.

When you think of AUC it's best to erase any of your preconceptions of a typical American medical school.

For any endeavor like this, you would likely have to do your own leg work and on your own time.

If thats the case I would hope that some of the organizations would be interested in getting a small group together... lets see what happens when I get to the rock and see how neck deep in depression I get

the fact is that your breaks in basic sciences are super short. maybe when you're in clinicals and your schedule is agreeable, then you can think about some exotic elective.

Wait until you actually make it through a semester of basic sciences and are completely exhausted b-4 you think about scheduling something during a 'break' if that's what you want to call the 10 days of solitude between semesters.

plus, what are you going to do on some medical mission after one or two semesters of basic sci? teach the aboriginals about hematoxylin and eosin stains or maybe the intricacies of dna polymerases......

unless you were a nurse or something in your previous life =P

Or maybe he can cover the Dr. VO bottleneck effect and inherited mitochondrial DNA diseases, like Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy.

Better yet, you could impress the good natives with your understanding of the 12 cranial nerves

    Yes sir!

Although, a trip to Amersterdam would be an 'enlightening' experience.
