More Clinical Rotation / Elective Questions

So I have "the list" of affiliated US hospitals for AUC. MY question is, for the core rotations, these are to be done at these hospitals, correct?

BUT....for the elective rotations.....is AUC like most stateside MD and DO schools, where as long as the hospital you do your electives at is fully accredited etc etc.....and you have permission to do an elective there from the Hospital/Academic institution......will AUC let you do your electives there?

Example: you are able to get a good EM elective rotation at a hospital in Chicago, Detroit, or Denver, but that hospital is obviously not on AUC's famed list...can you do it there?'

Thanks !!

yes.......the list is meant to help steer you to places that accept IMGs and where AUC students have done electives in the past

Cores have to be done at AUC's affiliated hospitals. Electives are anywhere that will take you.

In NY, you can not do more than 12 hours at hospitals that are unaffiliated.

For any rotation, u should check and make sure the rotation is green book.

It's pretty. I really hated those see-through drop downs. Good new info about a lot on there

just remember that the list of sites changes frequently enough that you should expect (even though it might not happen) significant changes between now and when you start your rotations.

How common is it that an AUC student lands electives not on AUCs list??
how do you get electives at hospitals not normally landed by AUC/IMG students? connections, good USMLE scores, etc? combination of them all?

Well I haven't gone through this process yet, but I have read posts from ScottTheModerator and other graduates who have written that getting electives at AUC is similar to Ross and SGU. You apply during your third year to locations and programs that you are interested in applying to for residency, so when you have some idea where you want to live for 3-5 years after medical school, that's when you start looking.

Getting an elective depends on a lot of factors but again I will leave it to posters who have been through the process to answer this. I am sure that connections (like a family member) and board scores are important factors.
