Important questions answered for Canadians heading to AUC
1. Is there a place in Toronto,ON or any where close to it where i can go for my interview rather than flying to AUC?
Interviews are in the US or on the phone. 2. What has been the attrition(drop out) rate in the last 3 years for AUC? about 7-9% over the last few years. 3. How many times are the students enrolled and and what are the average number of students enrolled in every semester? January (80 students), May (80 students), and September (180 students). 4. Approximately what percent of Canadian students end up getting a residency spot in US or what percent of Canadians don't match on average every year ( I know that there no exact figures out there but what do you think the stats are)? Our program is geared toward practicing in the US. However, about 5% of our students are from Canada and most have returned to Canada to practice. The process to return to Canada has a few extra steps from practicing in the US, but most Canadian AUC graduates have successfully completed it. Each province does have some of its own steps, in which you will have to look into. The complete process is: * Complete the basic sciences on the island (using a student visa). * Pass the USMLE step 1. * Complete the clinical rotations in the US or Europe (using a student visa). * Pass the USMLE step 2 CK and USMLE step 2 CS. * Graduate from AUC. * Complete a US residency (using a work visa). * Return to Canada - specifics on working in Canada differ depending on the province and the discipline that you would like to practice. * The Canadian board exams must also be taken to practice in Canada. Usually this is done concurrently with the US board exams, but can be done at anytime. (There are some rumors floating around that Canada (especially Ontario) may start accepting the US board scores in place of having to take the Canadian board exams. This may be in place by the time you get to this point in your medical career.) * Additionally, the Canadian residency match program just opened up spots for foreign graduates. With this you may be able to graduate and then try for a Canadian residency. This is all new this year, but should definitely benefit you. Detailed information can be found at Carms. Information obtained from the Enrollment Manager in Michigan. |
