    AUC vs India.

Today something interesting happened. i went to my alma mater today to talk one of my professors and he just kept going on and on about how his cousin is one of the adcomms at Kasturba Med. and is just dying for student to attend from HBCU's. he than mentioned that they got some grants just for HBCU student. Is it worth spending a summer learning Hindi to goto medical school? My family doctor is a graduate from their and she seems very compitant and the only thing you need hindi for is the clinical setting during the first two years but I don't know if they has rotations in the US.

umm... do you even have to ask? AUC without a doubt... Whats the point of learning Hindi if you arent going to use it? Most people in the US speak english.

Absolutely, unequivocally, no question, AUC, for so many reasons!

First, medical school is hard enough without learning a different language. I don't think a summer studying another language is going to cut it for being proficient enough to make it through med school. Also, you wouldn't be doing rotations in the US...huge disadvantage.

Basically, I can't think of a single reason you'd want to attend medical school there. I'm sure that it would look great for your prof if he could get people to attend his medical school, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. Far from it.

KMC is taught in English, like nearly every other medical school in India. They have a program which enables you to do your clinical rotations in the US. However, that program is not yet California accredited and AUC has more and better clinical sites. So, go with AUC.

You also need to think about the cost of that plane ticket. You can buy a round-trip ticket to AUC from Charlotte for about $400. I haven't checked, but I would assume it is a little more expensive to travel to India.

The culture shock experienced while attending AUC would also be less severe for an American student, I would assume (like others have said, who needs to add more stress to your life?).

if I could start over (before i started undergrad), then i would have attended the MBBS program in kasturba.

however, keep in mind that I know hindi, i visit india every year, the girls in india are simply irresistible (especially those punjabi dresses), and knowing how to get out of a really, really bad situation.

The situation is having traveler's diarrhea while on a road trip and not being able to find a public restroom/hotel/gas station. People who are from india know the answer to this scenario and in comparison the culture shock is negligible at AUC.
