When I bought my car, I bought it from an older couple that lives on the island and we did everything through a notary. I'm pretty sure this isn't the way most students do it, so I was wondering how to do a bill of sale so that the buyer can easily switch over insurance and registration. If anyone has any advice I would very much appreciate it.

Ha...I remember when my roommate bought a car all he needed was a typed up letter from the owner which simply stated that they are transfering coverage to the new owner, then it was signed, he took it to NAGICO in simpson bay and that was it. I don't know if there is more you need to do.

You need that Bill of Sale as well as the Inspection paper(should be a long sheet stapled to an inspection card).

the name on both must match.

the Inspection paper proves the car is yours, and the Bill of Sale transfers the car you own to the new buyer.

Do I need to have the bill of sale notarized? Or if my signature on the bill and the sig. on the reg. match will that be enough? I don't want to leave the person I'm selling to in a bind after I leave.

notarization is not required. You need to buy a stamp from nagico or the gov. building. its 5 guilders and makes the bill of sale legal. Really thats it, no official notarization is needed. Just 5 guilders and they give you an oversized postage stamp to wet nd attach to the bill of sale. really safe huh?

you could easily steal a car, write yourself a bill of sale, and all would be good.
