i dont know. i personally did not know a single person that wanted to go into surgery. maybe it was one of those classes where there were not a lot of aspiring surgeons.

It was actually a pretty tough year for surgery, and most foreign grads have to do a pre-lim year for surgery. Having said that, I dont know anyone that did not get a pre-lim surgery position that wanted one.

Also, there are actually a few people missing from the match list, one of which is surgery, but since they did not post it, I cant really tell where they are.

Does anyone know if the list was strictly PGY-1 or if it includes all the categorical spots starting at PGY-2 as well?

Well of course you don't know of anyone that didn't get a pre-lim surgery spot that wanted one....anyone that wants one should be able to get one! When I looked at the list of matched/unmatched programs over the past couple years, it looks like you can get a prelim spot at just about any hospital you want, including some of the very top university programs. Doesn't much matter though if they're not gonna give you a categorical spot later. I'm hoping it's more just that not many people wanted surgery this year.
