The pharm shelf was incredibly overrated IMO.

My genetics was excellent at the University of Toledo, it prepared me well for genetics at AUC. Anatomy and Biochem were nothing like med school, really did NOT help whatsoever.

Later,

i would have to agree there. at my college, genetics was right on. it felt like a took the class already when i went to auc. biochem and anatomy were a completely different breed in med school.

My college genetics sucked, but biochem was phenomenal. Granted, I didn't remember any of it when I went to medschool and still did good So you don't need to take any classes if you want to save some money.

of the 2 semesters of biochem, we spent almost 2 months going through the difference between alpha and beta pleated sheets. Gawd, so boring.

I enjoyed pharm and did not find it that bad, because it actually applied to what I was going to do as a physician. Also, the classes were like going to the gym. In the beginning it is difficult, but with practice, it gets easier.

absolutely....first semester was my toughest and worst here. i do like pharm; you know its going to be stuff you'll use clinically and it also kind of reviews the pertinent physiology, path, micro, etc

i was wondering what a typical 1st semester week is like with class schedules and all. i know its lectures in the morning and some labs in the evening. i was also wondering on how much time is spent roughly studying per weekday and weekend.

If I remember correctly, you have MCB every day, anatomy monday-thursday, and histo 3 days a week. You have anatomy lab usually 2-3 days a week, never on Friday, and it runs from 2-4 when you have it. You'll probably learn to hate anatomy lab very quickly.

How much time you spend studying is extremely variable from person to person. Personally, I spend sometimes 3-5 hours a day studying, and sometimes none. I always take a day of the weekend off, and usually a day or two during the week, except for the week and weekend before a block exam. Other people seem to always be studying.
