Pet friendly apartments walking distance from the campus.

We were planning to bring our two dogs to the island. One medium size and one small. But the apartment that we are looking into renting (tradewinds) does not allow pets, even though the current renters have two. The landlord said that too many owners have been complaining and now they do not allow pets. We are thinking that we might have to leave them and we are sad about the idea of leaving our pets behind. But what else can we do if the place we find does not allow pets? By reading the posting I see that many of you have pets. Any suggestions or advice in the matter?

looking for an apartment

Hi lore,

We were in the same position, we have a little poodle. We worked through Carol, she is a spouse of a student and was great in finding us a place.

If you PM, I'll give you her email address.

Good Luck!

Re:looking for an apartment that allows pets

Hi!
My husband and I brought down our three dogs. It was definetely a hassle trying to find a place. But I think that was mostly because we have three (one is a St. Bernard:-) )
You may have to go a little farther from campus if you want to bring your pets AND have a nice place. When we looked around campus we could find nothing at all!! We were even willing to spend more in rent, but no one would rent to us. We finally went out to Pelican Key, and we love it out here. It is about a 10-20 minute drive depending on traffic, but for us it is worth having our pets here! Plus, the nieghborhood is very nice. I think it all depends on what you are willing to give up and what you are able to spend.

If you need anymore help with your pets (or anything else) just let us know! We know all the ins and outs :-)

In my experience, places that will willingly rent to pet owners are few and far between, and even if they do, they have individual restrictions on size and quantity (I have found this especially true at Cote D'Azur Marina...thanks Koos ). Campus Village (3 minute walk from school) allows pets and were willing to take my pets with a reasonable deposit, however, I believe they are currently full.
Beach Bum is right...the farther away from campus, the better your chances may be for multiple pets. We have two dogs (65 & 40#) and two cats (20# each) and we live in Beacon Hill and absolutely love it. There are a bunch of pet owners here, and the landlords seem to be more willing to accept tennants with pets.
Best of luck!

Aloha,
