I am glad the school is actually trying to communicate. I wish they would do more communication allowing us to avoid unpleasant suprises down the road.

No matter what specialty you go into you will need to know Medicine. There's no getting around it. Medicine is the foundation of all of the other fields so before you go on to Surgery, OB/GYN, Peds, etc., you must first start with Medicine and then build on from there.

I agree. Imagine you're a surgeon and a pt. starts unexpectedly bleeding after you put in a few sutures (and the sutures were put in correctly) and now you need to figure out whether to give platlets?

All of the medicine training will suddenly come in handy.

Hey, atleast you guys are finding out now. They dropped that "14 weeks of medicine" bomb on us while we began our fourth year. Luckily they count neuro as a medicine elective, I think rads counts as medicine also.

I think the reason is, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, is that cores have to be green book listed for us to be licensed in all 50 states, electives don't have to be green booked. So while the electives are important for us to have, they don't have to be ACGME certified.

its complicated, some states require all cores to be green, texas requires that all electives are also green and some states require that the school have an official contract with the hospital you do cores at so to simplify just try and do everything green
