caribserve...how long does it take to get it setup?

I'll either be living in aventura or somewhere in simpson bay next semester, and I was wondering how/when to get caribserve.

Does anyone know how the process works?

How long does it take to get everything setup?

I heard the Aventura place has the equipment wired in each room, but we have to get it activated.

anyone know more about not needing an antenna with solutions?

I'm guessing aventura has everything wired in if we don't need them...

i think i said that in my earlier post. if you are with solutions you do NOT need the antenna. you need the little DSL modem which they may or may not already have installed there.

If you don't tell them you're from solutions and they charge you the $400 install fee... don't even think about asking for it back... you'll get laughed out of the building. I know paying in advance is always a risk here on the island, but since caribserve is probably what you're gonna be using for your time here, you might as well just pay it all at once. I was paying 3 months at a time, and surprise surprise - the rates went up at the start of this semester. You might as well lock in a whole year at the current rate, I can only see it going up.

yea i should have prepaid for the year....my worry now is forgetting when its due and missing the payment. then you have to pay 100 bucks to reconnect. not to mention the rates going up.....which for some reason are higher for solutions places than for those who use the antenna last time i checked. big surprise there.

okay so let me get this straight....

If I'm with solutions, then I should NOT have to pay a $400 install fee?

I called the mailbox today and a lady said that it will cost $150 for activation, $150 deposit, and then whatever rate plan I want.

    Does this sound right?

hmmm... guess i'll have to check on that.

how's the speed anyway? I know it'll never be like it was back home, but is it good enough to support voip or skype?
