1) The first is a doctor in a town close to our who graduated from SGU. I am a pharmacy technician and he is terrible at writing prescriptions. He has also been in trouble with the DEA over an audit he had with regards to controlled substances. I know this might be a dumb reason, but I don't want to go to a school that graduates such doctors. 2) My friend's former roommate in college graduated from SGU a couple of years back. During one semester his apartment was broken into and they were robbed and beaten by men at gunpoint. He was ok, but I think that's a little too much excitement for me. I realize that these are probably the exception and not the rule, but they helped to make my decision to apply to AUC a helluva lot easier.

I think I might regret not leaving soon after our finals, but I figured leaving on the 22nd would give me ample time to get settled into off campus housing, and then return back to the island on the 31st and not have to worry about getting back into the groove for 2nd term
and in response to the usual AUC over SGU preference; (in no particular order) 1) ALUMNI : Working in a top hospital in San Diego, CA for ~2 years, I met some amazing grads from AUC - all were widely respected by their peers. We do have SGU grads in our hospital system, but I personally never got the chance to get acquainted with them as I worked on a surgical unit and they were mostly in FP Scripps Health - San Diego, CA - Physician Search put in school name for keyword and you will search the entire hospital system 2) ISLAND : I have vacationed with family several times to SXM in the past - more accessible and more western comforts 3) EXPOSURE : My experience and communication with the M.D.'s at work led me to apply to AUC - and only after finding valuemd did I know about SGU and send my app in later (seems to be opposite regarding establishment w/ east coast vs. west coast) 4) CLASS SIZE: Coming from a large UC school, I now prefer smaller class size and greater accessibility to profs 5) CLINICALS : I, among many others, will be shooting for Kern clinicals 6) TIMELINE : I have been out of school for several years and I want to start ASAP - and feel strongly that the May term will assist me w/ ease of schedule and prep time for Step 7) THE X FACTOR : AUC VMD vets have a keener sense of humor than SGU VMD vets.... an important trait for medical school studies (I kid I kid, please no attacks!) *note - while I was accepted to AUC for May and sent my deposit in 2 days later - I was accepted by SGU for the FOM program several weeks later, of which I denied... |

waiting on May '08
Hello all! I have applied for May 2008. My application was completed last week. I have been accepted into another school already but AUC is my first choice. Does anyone know how full the class is yet? My GPA is 3.2 and MCAT 25, anyone get in with similar or weaker scores? Thanks!

Hi everyone,
Is it too late to apply to AUC for the May 2008 class? I know its like only 2 months away lol but still wanted to give it a try My stats are ok...not really spectacular...MCAT: 9V, 10B, 9P..28R composite...my cum gpa for undergrad was 3.39 n science was barely 3.2...and 3 yrs of research (a 2 yr long internship resulting in a publication, a summer fellowship, and 1 yr full-time job)...i don't hve much clinical related exp except for like 2 months volunteering in the ER after freshman yr...do you guys think i'll get in for may or is it too late? ![]() |
