For the programs where you're in the military while you're in med school, you definitely have to be at an LCME med school. You are commissioned as an O-1 prior to beginning med school and are then bumped to an O-3 upon graduation. In this scenario, they cover your tuition.

You can also join the military after med school and receive the a commission based on your experience (O-3 if you're new, but I've seen experienced doctors come in as O-6). I do not think they'll pay you back if you do it this way, but I'm not sure.

The Army has programs that will pay back your loans, but you owe an ungodly amount of service time.

GI bill will help if you are already in the service and qualify for it. I am planning on using it.

Yeah, I got a similar letter. My guess is they are still doing interviews/reviews of people who applied for Jan08 or May08, so those of us who are looking at Aug are understandably not the priority. I just wanna know something!

Hey guys, I spoke with my counselor both yesterday and today and she advised me to retake the MCAT before applying again b/c my 1st MCAT score was 18M. My commulative gpa is 3.21 and my science is 3.12 per Amcas yet my advisor or counselor told me that they calculated it to be 2.89 for my science because I had an F in general biology (given to me for not taking an incomplete when I had a family issue and it was past withdrawal date). How can they get a different science gpa than what Amcas had? Does amcas usually add failed grades or what's the deal? She told me my stats were low and I reminded her that the posted stats on AUC website was 3.1 gpa and 21 MCAT score but she keep repeating the fact that other people had 25 or 27 for their mcat. I was kind of getting frustrated with her and told her to just send it in and see what the AdCom says about. I told her that if they deny me, it'll not be the end of the world anyway... so just send it in and lets see. Somehow there was May 2008 on my application when I applied for August 2008 and she told me that the August admission is very competitive and that's why I'm applying earlier. What shd I do?.

i thought amcas took into account all of the grades you received (passed or failed). see if you can get some kind of answer for this discrepancy.

so you applied and now see what happens. if you really want to go to AUC or another of the big 4 and you dont get in this time, you will DEFINITELY need a better mcat than what you got. if they use the gpa they specified and with your current mcat score, i think you're a long shot right now. good luck

I called MEAS today and was told that they were giving priority right now to the earlier classes, and that most of the Aug 08 apps hadn't been looked at. But, I was also told that it should only be another couple of weeks before we hear something. After the holiday maybe? I'm suprised there are still seats even open for Jan.

Cool

Hi hi !!
Just sent in my app for Sept. 08 today !! AHhhh...
lemme know if you all start to hear anything ...
Also... I was hoping someone could tell me about the school's GPA conversion methods... I'm from Canada and I just get % marks for each course... for eg. is there a range of marks that would equate to 4.0, 3.5, etc...?
THANKS!!
Goodluck everyone !!!
