August 08?

Hey, I have applied to AUC for the Fall of 08 too. I am in a little bit of the same boat as some of you. I have fairly good overall, and science GPA, but my MCAT score was beyond SUBPAR as well (19O). I have also served in the Military for 6 years, and am a cancer survivor. B/c of all that I am a bit behind in my timing for med school, but oh well. That really doesn't matter. I sent out my app to AUC, ROSS, and SGU (my hail mary throw), and have been contacted by AUC. She said that she was my "admissions advisor", whatever that means. Anyway, I'll be looking forward to hear of any progress that anyone else has made, or successes for that matter.

the admission adviser is just your contact in MEAS. they will call you when the have a decision or you can call them to find out your status.

T-Rock, where in the Military, and what is your GPA? Great to have another soldier on here.

Well, after about 2 weeks my file is finally "complete" and getting ready to go to the admissions committee. Time to get nervous and hope I get a good phone call here in the next couple of weeks!

I'm in a similar situation (spent 6 years in the marine corps infantry) and my GPA is dismal (2.9) with a definite upward trend. I am scheduled to take the MCAT in janurary and have scored very nicely on practice MCATS (however relevant). I am definitely hoping they factor in life-experience when processing applicants. AUC is my top choice thus far.

Quick Question:

For the people who are in the military or were in the military.
Will the military help pay for your med school or do you have to get some type of outside loans.

I am thinking about joining up in the military...just so I could graduate debt-free...and I know that I will most likely have to stay in the military 7 years after but that isn't much of a problem for me.

there are websites devoted to these questions from the army, navy and air force.

i was researching it myself for a while and they have a program where you are commissioned as an officer after med school and they give you forgiveness on some of your federal loans.

i know they have programs where you are actually in the military while you are in med school and they pay you and stuff, but i thought that was for folks going US med schools.

Military Paying for Education

For the people who are in the military or were in the military.

I have researched this question for myself and talked with someone in recruiting and simply put the answer is no, if you are wanting to join now. They only cover medical school is the US and Puerto Rico. There are no caribbean schools on the list. I do not know however, if the GI Bill or any other provision will cover education in the caribbean for people already enlisted. Good luck
