if you have a 3.9 GPA and you cant break 23 on the MCAT it really shows that you either went to a college that was very easy and that you really do not know the material in classes you supposedly got an "A" in.

Yeah, doesn't really mean much to me, but it sounds like a good thing for AUC. I'd love to learn more about it, but you guys are my only real source of info

Guys, I don't think that a high GPA and average MCAT is indicative of the quality of this persons undergrad education or that persons intellect and I don't think that it is fair to speculate. This person could've just had a bad day the day of the test, or for whatever reason just didn't perform up to their expectations. You can't draw alot of conclusions from just those 2 numbers, attending or having attended an international school you SHOULD be accutely aware of that.

That statement is total poppycock...I totally bombed the MCAT...and I have a 3.9 GPA from a very good university, where i majored in biology and was in the honors program. I was a national merit scholar, got really high SAT scores, was valedictorian of my elementary school, junior high, and high school....i was even a top speller in the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee....so I'd like to think that i do have a little sense here and there...but I never took a preparatory course, very dumb on my part, or did much studying for the test...I just took it, figuring how hard could it be?...well i got an 18...not to mention the summer i took it i was in a really bad relationship and not in a very good state of mind...i knew i bombed the test from the first section when the proctor said 5 minutes left and i was only halfway finished....yea i know i should have voided the test from then...but oh well..................

....So yea it is possible to have a 3.9 and score low on the MCAt...its so funny how a low score on one test can undermine many years of success....

but i guess...THATS LIFE!

Same here, I got great GPA from a major NY university but decided to wing the MCAT which turned to be a bad idea. So please, don't assume. Although I'm sure there is a strong statistical correlation betwenn MCAT and GPA it is definitely not a predictor of one's abilities.

Second, I don't really think AUC cares where you do your undergrad course work, as long as you do it and do reasonably ok. Both the MCAT and GPA are important.

Also, it's plenty easy to get A's in classes and bomb the MCAT. Just because you get an A in a class doesn't mean you learned anything, could have all just been memorized. If you don't study at all for the MCAT, you're probably not going to do very well. So while you would think that someone capable of getting all A's in college should be able to get a good MCAT score (and you'd probably be right), it doesn't mean they will.

I think the point they were trying to make is that anything below (or including) a 23 on the MCAT is just very low!
AUC's ADCOM does take into account where you went to college, its not the end all be all of the admissions process but its one more factor that is considered. you have to admit that a 3.9 at Duke, vandy or BC is different than a 3.9 at UTEP or appy State.
