Yeah, you are, trust me.

The MCAT is used by medical schools to predict how well you will perform on the USMLEs. The higher the MCAT, the better your chances of performing well on the exam. Most osteopathic students in the US have an average of 26 and US MDs have a 30.

I am sure there are just as many people with CC courses under their belt that are in US med schools as there are Ivy Leaguers in the Caribbean med schools... nothing is an absolute in med school admissions. If CC courses were as worthless as you say and Uni classes are ALWAYS better, then there would be no one with CC courses in US schools...and i think you would be hard pressed to prove that.

Amcas and AUC science GPA calculations

Yoda, I'll not agree with you on the calculation of science(s) gpa b/t AUC and Amcas. Amcas calculated my sgpa to be 3.12 but AUC calculated it to be 2.89. I asked why the discrepancy and the lady at MEAS told me they used (physics, chem, orgo chem, bio). I had a family problem at the time I was taking bio1 and never went to the class or study for the test ( but found ways to show up for the test, who did I think I was, so I failed and had to retake it). I'm disappointed their calculation put my sgpa at 2.89 but on the whole my efforts at getting couple of A's and most B's shd be considered. The counselors at AUC are like "in your face people" and will tell you the truth, whether you like it or not. It hurts when you hear the truth but that's reality. I told them to send it regardless, who knows what's going to happen. Everyone have their LUCK and BLESSINGS in this world, you know.

auc calculates the science gpa similar to AMCAS and they also go over your transcript. They know how many times you took a class or if you had to go to a different school to pass a class.

two more things: being competive does not mean that its automatic that you get in and the admissions rep you talk to does not always know why you were rejected, they sometimes look at the app themselves and guess why you were rejected.

However, is it really worth it to carry on about it so much?

I do have to say (in response to some earlier posts) that it is completely possible to have a good GPA, and score low on your MCAT, and there are plenty of reasons why this can occur. In my own situation, I took the MCAT while I was still getting my feet back under me from cancer and a bone marrow transplant. Believe me, a low score under those circumstances is not hard to achieve. I am just glad that good caribbean schools exist, and essentially offer a second chance to all of us who didn't recieve the opportunity in the states.
I would think cancer would be the toughest battle of your life. Cheers to your recovering health.

Science GPA calculation...

As I look over this thread, there seems to be several of you who have had major gaps between the Science GPA calculation for AMCAS/AACOMAS and the calculation that AUC came up with.

I am currently in the "two-week waiting period" to hear back from an advisor about my application.

I am curious if my science GPA will also be calculated differently (3.3-3.4) since I have never failed or retaken a science course.

Are there any members out there who a) have never failed or retaken a science course, and b) had a huge discrepancy between the two calculations?

Thanks
