hey white people, we asian people feel you. We are not underrepresented and our stats must be similar to yours for a solid shot at admissions. I am not bitter about it, but if I was black id use the system fully!

Merit is not as important as it should be. People get jobs and interviews because who they know in temple instead of their resume. People get in to prestigious schools because of who their parents are and not necessarily what they have achieved. That doesn't make it right, though.

If black, hispanic, american indian and others get in to medical school with lower stats, then they should be made to sign a contract to work in their underserved neighborhoods for 3-5 years to pay society back. That would be fine with me.

Race should not be given any consideration in admissions decisions. If one race is over represented because they score better and another is hardly there at all, then so be it. If someone wants to change that, then maybe they should get better scores! I'm not racist, I just don't see how it's fair to give any race a break and lower requirements just because there are less of them!

I don't think there should be any contract signing that makes it ok for less qualified people to get into medical school before more qualified people. Race should play no part in the decision making process, and the fact that it does is disgusting. Ideally, there should probably be no personal identifying information at all...no name, race, or anything of the sort. It's mostly all done through AMCAS anyway, so it would be easy enough for them to assign everyone a number and let the med schools use that for identification purposes. As it stands now, clearly less qualified people are being accepted just because they're black or whatever. There's no excuse for that, no matter where they agree to work.

I have to agree with this. It makes no sense to have someone sign a contract unless they are receiving some sort of financial help as in some scholarships that I've heard of at medical schools in the States.

Yes!! Let's whine more about how unfair the world is... and how I didn't get into a US med school because a "black or Puerto Rican" person "stole" my spot.
