MCAT and AUC admission timeline

Hi All!

Just wanted to get some advice on applying for January 2008. I have been accepted to other schools (SABA and ROSS) at same time, albeit waaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2003. It didn't work out for me then, I never attended. But if I re-apply there now MCAT would be required for ROSS, and SABA is likely to ask for it too. The only reason I bring those two up is I know my application stats i pretty good. I'm older, with a lot of health care experience. But after visiting Dominca and Saba (island) I know it'd be way too much for my family to deal with. Anyway, AUC is the goal. I really wanna aim for January 2008, but no MCAT is given after September 16th until January. I think it's too late to register for it now, and even if it wasn't I need to brush up on long forgotten undergrad stuff. So I feel I might be screwed for January admission b/c of such timeline. The reason for such "rush" is at least an attempt to make 2001 match. As I've said I'm older. I have been studying on my own, of course not 16 hours a day, but steady enough to take less time for step1 when the time comes.
Q: Had anyone been given a conditional acceptance with MCAT to be submitted ASAP after admission?

Any info, and / or advice is greatly appreciated from those who walked the walk.

Thanks

as far as i know, the application cannot be considered complete for review without an mcat score. not sure if january will be in the cards for you.....you definitely want to put some time into preparing. if you other stats are so good then why not aim for a high mcat and a US school?

Hey Kemper6036, Thanks for your reply. Sure, in the ideal world U.S would've been better. Also if I was about 16-17 years younger as an average med school applicant things probably would be different now. But reality is they aren't. U.S application cycle is completely different from the Carib. I mean both MD and DO programs for the most won't consider the MCAT scores from January. I believe latest they'll take is September from the year before. So, if I wanted (let's just say LECOM) in September of 2008, my MCAT should be available to AACOMAS now. And we're talking one year later to just start. I wish I had 9 lives like a cat...lol. But being older is already a huge disadvantage in terms of time. In terms of health care and life experience it's invaluable (IMHO).

if the time table is bad for you, delay it for 4 months and try for may. you'll be early for the match and have plenty of time to study for your steps. also, may is the easiest of the 3 classes to get into. that's my 2 cents.

Thanks. I'll just cal the admissions tomorrow, and check AAMC website for the dates before 2007 is over. The new score reporting is supposedly under one monts, could even be as short as two weeks. Otherwise, May could be the only way, but hey I got in 2003. Unfortunately couldn't start then. It's amazing I would've been either done with the school or very near it. Ahhhh, suckiness is a part of life. I embrace it

Are you trying to transfer from another Carib medical school or start from the beginning?

Pretty sure he's starting from the beginning.

You can begin your application without the MCAT, but they're not going to accept you without it. It's way too big of a factor to give you a conditional acceptance based on MCAT scores! They only do that for stuff like waiting to finish a required class. Unfortunately, you're probably looking at May.

I had the same question - I was trying to squeeze into the September class but couldn't take the MCATs until July. I was told that there was no such thing as provisional acceptance so even if I could get the MCAT scores in before the class started, my acceptance at that point was very unlikely. Also, the MCAT scores are taking AT LEAST a month. I still don't have my scores from August 6th and on the score page it states that the July 13th scores are now available (nothing after that yet).

The reason I asked.... The OP started this thread in the Ross forum in November '06, then Bumped it up in March '07. So I was trying to figure out if he is currently enrolled in another carib medical school and trying to transfer into AUC or if he is trying to start from the beginning of basic sciences.

Transfer to ROSS for ex-Rossie? Possible?
Tried to post it in the ROSS clinical forum, but I can't start this thread there. no access.

I know that the right way to go about it is to call ROSS admissions. But.. it's still a hypothetical situation which could become a reality soon. Q: Had anybody transfered to AUC from so-called low budget and profile schools(i.e St.James, Spartan, UNIBE etc). I just don't want to name the actual school..... Suppose that all basic science classes are passed, and Step 1 = 205, No MCAT prior to admission, but tons of clinical experience in allied health for almost 2 decades. I know all about no Cali, b/c I had to do the whole thing at Cali-approved school. Don't really care about it. I just want Stafford loan, more rotation options, and other perks that come with "big 3" name. I also was a ROSS student for one semester, but had a family emergency, which took longer than I expected. So I never returned to ROSS, but still want to graduate from it. Anybody in the same boat?

Thanks

Thank You guys. If everything else goes fine I think they'll take me back. I had a medical reason, and it was cleared with (at that time) dean O., Dr. A.W., and Dr. L. of the promotion commitee. The only thing... I was accepted before the MCAT became a requirement. It is mandatory now. So who knows? May be they'll have a heart.

bump
hey guys! just wanted to bring this thread back to life. I'm still in basic science in one of the "lesser" schools, and will be taking USMLE. So I don't yet have the reason to contact ROSS directly. But I'll be very happy to hear from some recent clinical transfers. Especially if you were known to ROSS before, but had to withdraw for whatever reason. And yes, I know about Cali. Let'ss save that talk for some other time, please.

Thanks very much

ross clinicals are becoming a disaster, if not already so. just read the other threads.

My school doesn't have good rotations in NY. I don't know about ROSS now, but all my friends from NY did their rotations there. Some had to go to Chicago for 1 or 2 cores. But nothing is really like it used to be, if you ask me. Look at the whole practicing medicine thing, and the prospect of socialized midicine after all these loans. I don't mind it, if the socialist government will absorb those.

Anybody else on transfers?
Thanks
