Not a complaint abt the water but a legit question

fine so yes we all lost water for a lil bit there... just a small inconvience, no biggie.... my ques is:
-maybe im just not good with the way things work, but i live in campus village 2 and we have a hot water heater in the small cabinet... so when we loose water... howcome we dont get whatevers left over in the tank b4 loosing all water in general? i mean im assuming that the hot water from the shower, bathroom, and kitchen comes in large part from the that tank... am i wrong in the assumption or am i just missing something?

-bascially, is that tank actually full of water? and if it is why doesnt it act as a small reserve when the water goes out?

Yes the tank is full of hot water, but for that water to reach your spout cold water must push the hot water out of the tank.

Cold water (more dense)enters the bottom of the tank, pushing the hot water (less dense) out the top. If there is no cold water available to push the hot water through the pipes, the hot water stays in the tank.

That's the basics...hope it helps.

This sounds like one of those scenarios they put on the MCAT.

Convection plays very little role in this case. What's pushing the water into the tank is the pressure generated by the water tower/pump, which, as we all know, was not working well today.

Much like your circulation it is a closed system. You can access it but instead of a scalpel use a wrench and/or hammer.

There is a drain valve at the bottom of the tank. Seek and you shall find.
