i dont know about getting into sgu with that mcat. i would think you wouldnt have much problem with auc and ross. be careful about retaking the mcat.....it is very possible for you to get a lower score

WOW i feel like all you guys are stressing out. Most of the messages I have read are from people with MCATs waaaay better than mine. Well I just received news of acceptance to AUC Fall 2008 class, my stats are as follows:
GPA 3.6
Sc GPA 3.4
MCAT 22

I do have 2+ years research experience so maybe that helped? Also, I have 3+ years of extra curriculars.

However my overall grades are pretty average. If I got in, Im sure a lot of you guys won't have a problem. Hope that helps! GOOD LUCK

for AUC your gpa I would think is above average... I got in with 3.15 GPA, and a 25 MCAT for the fall 2008 semester.

I am also doing research under a doctor at USC hospital for the last year

thats pretty much it...If not st. georges or AUC...will i at least get in to one of the big 4 because competition as i can imagine will only continue to get tougher

o yea...and do med schools look at improvement and value improvement over the course of your college career...i had to work so hard to pull my gpa up to a 3.3...originally my overall was a 2.7 and gradually increased from 2.9 to 3.0 to 3.2 to 3.4 to 3.6 and finally to 3.75...i so wish i could redo college
Don't redo college, just learn from your mistakes and move on to the Caribbean like all of us!

Medical Schools do look at improvement, but you have to realize that US schools are already swamped with plenty of applications from students who have made excellent grades all the way through their academic careers.... as the admissions director from ECU told us in a meeting of our "pre-health professionals" club (dorky name, I know), "The 4.0 GPAs and good MCATs are a dime a dozen - we get them all the time... what we really want to see is how you are developing as a person."

In my opinion, your scores are great for the Caribbean - I think you have a great shot at the "big 4" (stupid nickname). Apply and see...

Congrats on your acceptance!! Isn't it nice to not have to worry about it anymore? & your GPA is WAY above avg for AUC - your MCAT is pretty much on par with AUC avg MCAT.

Thanks nshams! Im actually waiting to hear from SGU before I decide about AUC.

Have you guys applied else where also? SGU vs AUC...any advice on which one's more preferable?

Personally, I only applied to AUC.

AUC vs SGU has been discussed before. Basically SGU has better facilities (but you pay a lot more), very large class size (poor student:teacher ratio), and a less-developed island. AUC is located on a better island, has smaller class sizes, and is cheaper.

Hey y'all,
This whole discussion is very helpful. Here is my insecure plea now

2.9- GPA...low, I know.
27Q on the MCAT...I have def. improved my study habits.
Pretty solid resume, worked all through undergrad, have summer research in labs, some hospital volunteering, leadership roles etc.

What do you think?
Also...how much more competitive is the Sepetember semester compared to May or January?

Also, any thougts on that as of tonight, the AUC website was still accepting apps for May? Doesn't the semester start in less than a month from now?

Thanks!
