I think they show improvement. I hope you were able to get that across in your essay and explain why there was improvement, ie dedication, maturity etc. It seems like you show promise and I guess you never know until you try. Good luck to you. What does your overall science GPA come out to when the new classes are added? You may make the average, you are at the average on MCAT add to those that you have extensive experiences and you probably have a shot.

like the other guy said, it will depend on how those GPAs balance each other out. apply and see what happens

Waiting Anxiety

Thanks Texas and San Fran....
I did explain in my essay that I was ill for months and in the hospital for a week (but only one sentence cause i didn't want to seem like i was making excuses), i also explained in the essay how my interest in medicine developed and stuff like motivation, maturity and improvement (thought i covered that ok). on aamcas my cum. gpa is 2.64 and sci. gpa 2.57, but on aacomas my cum. gpa is 2.84 and sci. gpa is 2.9. also, the mcat was V9 P7 B8 and then V8 P7 B9 so the best combined is V9 P7 B9 which is 25 (but i know they don't combine). so i guess i am average and hoping that my clinical research experience really helps. thanks for your advice.

no one is really sure how auc calculates your gpa......i'm sure it is somewhere in between aamcas and aacomas. apply and see what happens.....i'm not sure if they combine mcat scores like that either. if you dont get in, you might have to reconsider retaking the mcat.....

thanks for calling it san fran and NOT frisco! =)

I graduated in 2002 from SUNY Binghamton with a ** in psychobiology with a very low gpa of 2.3. I have been conducting NCI clinical research trials in hematology/oncology at a medical center for the past 5 years and 4 months (huge clinical and medical experience here). Then I took the following classes at night for the past 2 years: medical microbiology, anatomy & physiology II & II, inorganic chem I & II, organic chem I & II, physics I & II. My gpa for post-bacc coursework was 3.56. MCAT in 8/07 was 24R and 9/07 was 24O. My LOR's are from chief of hem/onc (work), research director (work), physics prof/pre-health advisor and med micro professor/asst chair of biology.

so, thank you for giving your opinion of "what my chances are"
your mcat is average. however, the fact that you showed improvement in your gpa from a 2.3 to a 3.56 will help you. i think you got a shot. hope it goes well

wait, did you retake those classes? let me clarify, did you take those classes in undergrad and then retook it in post-bacc?

if you did, your chances might not be as good b/c you retook the class.

Yes, I re-took inorganic chem I & II and organic chem I & II. The new classes were med micro, Anat & Phys I & II and Physics I & II.

so that means they would calculate my gpa as ammcas does giving me a cum. gpa of 2.64 and sci. gpa of 2.57, MCAT 24R (25 combined) and 5 years clinical research experience. What do you think? Any justice?

What is 24R, 25 combined? Nobody really cares about your writing sample score, and it certainly doesn't add a point to the numerical score.

Your GPA is gonna hurt. A very average MCAT (of 24, it looks like) may or may not make up for it. Worth applying though.
