Extracurricular:
Pfizer 2.5 years
Scripp's Institute of Oceanography 1 year
San Diego Center of Spinal Disorders 1 year
- Shadowed many surgeries
- Published Spinal Journal

Mcat:
28

Anways, i failed a class (neuro), and took it again hoping to do better but ended up getting a D. That's my only grade lower than a C though, is that going to hurt me alot overall? Or will the extracurriculars and mcats help me out? I just graduated, and would rather not spend the money and time to go back and the class over for a third time. I'd rather use that time to get a 31+ on my mcat.

Thanks

your mcat is excellent. however your gpa is kinda low but your mcat might able to balance it out. sounds like you have good extracurricular activities and yes, it will help you out. so will the mcat. i suggest you apply and find out. i have a chance.

Smile Science GPA

Hi Everyone!

I was just wondering if you calculated math classes into your science GPA when applying to the caribbean? I know AMCAS includes math classes but some people have told me that they only calculated their science GPAs for the caribbean.

I would like to know how you guys calculated your science gpa (with or without math?)

i think its a mystery, how they calculate science gpa. Your best bet would be to just call MEAS and ask

like slevit said no one really knows. if they did include math in the science gpa, its a miracle i got in because that was about 30 units of Cs!!!!!!!!!!

I filled in the secondary applications and did it from the classes that were required. I remember adding advanced math classes into my science GPA for some of the US schools.

Great MCATs. You likely going to be asked about the disparity between grades and MCATs where ever you appy if you make the cutoffs, but having a 2.04 will severly handicap you where ever you apply.

So do you recommend shooting for a higher MCAT score?

Your MCAT score is great and will not be your problem. They VERY low GPA is going to be the problem. If you don't get accepted, which you likely may not, you'll probably need to do more undergraduate coursework, or a masters program, to boost your GPA.
