Last week, I went to a graduate fair at UCLA. Reps from SGU, AUC and Ross were there. As a possible September 08 applicant, I asked them what kind of stats they were looking for. This is what they said:

AUC: 3.4 gpa & 23 MCAT
ROSS: 3.4 gpa & 24 MCAT
SGU: 3.4 gpa & 27-29 MCAT

Concerns

Hey there, my GPA is approx. 3.3 overall and my science is about 3.1. I'm involved in numberous extra-currics, research, and clinical work. I have good letters of reference. I did well on my MCAT, except my writing score sucked. It's a 32N. Now this would seem alright, right? The problem though, is that I have some really bad grades in the prerequesite courses. I have a whopping C in one of my inorganic chem classes, a C in my second semester organic chem, C in calc 3, and a possible C in analytical chem. I know these courses are heavily weighted at most schools. Do you think these grades will dramatically lower my chances at getting in?

Many thanks.

I'm new here as well, but I think that fat 32 on the MCAT will be your ace in the hole. Your GPA is fine and though they MIGHT be concerned that you can do the science work in med school, your score on the MCAT will put that to rest.

Also if you have an upward curve to your transcript (ie: doing better now than before) that also helps.

Good luck,
HAB

I'd think you'll be just fine. Even with a couple C's, overall, you're doing much better than a lot of people who get accepted.

although you have a lower than avg GPA, your 32 on the MCAT is a shining star. i think you have a strong chance of acceptance.

from the self reported MCAT scores of students in the fall class I would say that your 32N MCAT score is just about on par with the class average I would bet on your acceptance regardless

Your MCAT score is nice.
It sounds like you are still in school....I think that you should take more science classes to up your science GPA and try to apply to u.s. med schools.
