Alright for anyone applying you should take a listen to what I am saying it is very important. Hospital work or shadowing will not make up for below standard scores. Like 99% of people in medical school have health care experiences that sound impressive (especially here since everyone really really wants to be a doctor if this is where they are). A 14 MCAT and working as a secretary at your doctors office for 7 years or tech in the Er all through college dont balance out. And be warned yes the average acceptance MCAT is somewhere around 23 they were saying this semester but keep in mind that a lot of those accepted students that dont rectify their mistakes of the past are failing classes (I was told currently that 40 some percent are failing at least one of their classes this semester and one of the faculty members told me he expects our first semester class to be down to 100-110 students next semester). Going to school here is a second chance to make up for your past mistakes, they grade and test you like any other medical school with average MCAT scores of 32 or 31 because they have to.

That was great attention to detail. A skill that can benefit one in medicine. I would say that a 14 MCAT should be repeated as I have only heard of a few students with MCAT scores in the teens.

Hey guys,
I'm a little confused on how to calculate my science GPA. Does science mean ALL the science classes including upper division classes or just the pre-reqs like general bio, general chem, ochem, etc. Not including upper division bio classes I have about a 3.0 science GPA but if it's including upper division then I only have a 2.69 science. So it makes a huge difference! Will AUC allow me to take the higher grade if a course is repeated? Worse scenario -- science GPA 2.69 cGPA 3.08 What MCAT should I be aiming for? Of course the higher the better but I want to know what is the minimum I am allowed to get considering my horrible science GPA? Will MCAT of 23 suffice? Has anyone gotten in with a science GPA of 2.6?? I am a non-traditional student and career changer. I am working full-time so it's a little hard to study for the MCAT at this time. I feel so depressed and hopeless =(. Please advice me on what I need to do to get accepted next year. Thanks everyone. Last edited by longlashes; 10-23-2007 at 06:12 PM. |

anybody can give me an advice regarding AUC?
i think my app is enaugh for Ross and SMU...but not sure about AUC CHEM 1 (B+) CHEM 2 (B) MATH (A) BIO 1 (B) BIO 2 (B) PHYS 1 (B) PHYS 2 (B) ENGLISH/SOSC (A) ORG (C) - it was a one full year course, C is above average for Org at my school,... but unfortunately the committee probably won't care/know about that overall GPA just below 3.0 or 3.0 (i cannot calculate it, since our school doesnt use a 4.0 GPA system) , but only because of my first year grades (1.4GPA) , every GPA after was above 3.0 i think 18M MCAT (english is my 2nd language) - i know this sucks! :/ 2000$ Academic Scholarship (for 3rd year grades) Clinical Research Coordinator - 2.5 Years which included tons of shadowing as well 3 cardiology publications in very respected medical journals lots of extra-cirriculars advice? |

those grades dont look that bad but the 18 on the mcat is going to really set you back i think........all your ECs are good but i dont know if it can offset that score.
