Your MCAT gotta be on higher level. A friend of mine who got in with similar GPA had an MCAT of 34 or 36.

overall gpa 2.9, science gpa 3.3, mcat 24M (PS10,VR5,BS9).

After, my first 3 years in college I had a gpa 2.3. I transferred and my gpa is now 3.65, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I have some volunteer work and I expect great LOR's.

How competitive are my numbers for AUC?
I am worried about my VR and essay score, should I re-take the mcat?

My parents want me to re-take the mcat and get a higher score for the US med schools, but I think no matter what my score is the overall gpa will kill my chances. What do you think?

that's correct. your overall GPA and science GPA are low for US med schools. if you do want to appy for US med schools, you might think about doing a masters or a post-bacc. that might increase your chances.

with those numbers, you might have a chance to get into AUC. try and apply.

You have a decent chance at AUC, but about no chance in the US...even if you do re-take your MCAT. Sorry to be blunt.

I love blunt answers! What about my VR (5) and essay (M), will that significantly hurt my application to AUC? I'm pretty confident that I can do better.

I was thinking about applying for Jan. 2008 with the 24M and re-take the mcat. If I get rejected with the 24, can I re-apply for Jan. with my new score? Or do I have to wait until May?

Your 5 on the verbal would probably be a bigger deal in the US than in the caribbean. Caribbean probably cares more about total score than individual scores. That being said, a 5 isn't going to help either, particularly if you are a native english speaker! However, I think you'll be OK for the January or May class. You have probably a 50/50 chance of being accepted as is.

You'll have to talk to MEAS about what would happen if you are turned down and then get new MCAT scores.

just so people know, it really isn't as easy as is used to be to gain admission to AUC anymore.. it definitly is getting more competitive.
I had a 3.1 cumulative GPA and 2.9 cumulative science GPA (last 3 year cumulative GPA of 3.3 & a last 3 year science GPA of 3.1) with a MCAT of 23O, good letters of reference, Bachelor of Science Degree, and a good amount of volunteer work, but I still turned out to be not what they were looking for.

i'm sorry to hear that.

i agree. for every semester that is enrolled, the avg MCAT and GPA increases. in a few years, it will be more competitive to get in.

I was told by admissions that you need at least a 2.8 science GPA and a 20 or higher on the MCAT...

I would kind of hope that anyone being accepted to medical school has at least a 2.8 science GPA and 20 MCAT!
