here goes it:
3.67 Overall 3.66 Science 27 MCAT (10 PS, 5 V, M, 12 **) 26 MCAT (9 PS, 6V, M, 11 **) Stats are great, Letters are way beyond par, Plenty of volunteer work, shadowing, ive been working as a research assistant at a med school for past 6 months, etc. However, I have a small academic problem on my record. I did not cheat on an exam but missed it and retook it. I got a great grade on it but the professor later found out that my excuse was not a valid reason to retake. He sent me to the disciplinary board and I received an F in the course. This however is not on my transcript but i have written it on my disciplinary action part of the application. What do you think? |

I'm 27 and will graduate in Dec with a BA and ** degree in Political Science. I have a GPA of 3.0 because I had a rocky start out of high school - then I took 4 years off but it's been a lot of work rebuilding.
Each semester my GPA has gone up (last semester was a 3.95) and my sciences are all pretty good (lowest is a B-). I also have... Phlebotomist Pharmacy Tech Basic Life Support Instructor Human Physiology TA Grant writing experience (98% approval) Guest speaker to campus lectures Developed and gave campus wide presentations Co-founded a city-wide fundraiser Did an internship relating to global health Taught English as a second language HIV tester and counselor Street outreach volunteer (meet high risk users in the streets and educate them on how to prevent spread of disease) Commttee member for American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team Capitan for Juvenile Diabetes Walk Big Event Volunteer Active in student organization My LORs are great I take the MCAT on Sept 8th. I have a lot of friends that got into med school in the states and they had fewer ECs and volunteer experience, but better grades. If I do well on the MCAT in Sept, do I have a chance at the carib? Thanks |

Without a doubt, IniquityBliss. The rising GPA trend and strong extracurriculars/prior work experience in the health care field will help you greatly (a 3.0 is only slightly below the average), so if you do well on the MCAT in September, I'm pretty sure you'll get in somewhere.

International courses
I’m an immigrant from Africa who moved to USA 6 years ago(US citizen now) and trying to make it to med school, but according to my bad academic performance in my native country i found it almost impossible to make it .the reason because those 3 years that i spent in accounting which i accumulated 120 credits with mostly Cs and few ** .my mother school overseas dropped all courses that i took there for discontinuity .without those courses i'll have 3.15 Overall and 3.40 Science but if they will consider it i'll be 2.75 overall and 3.40 sci.(i didn't take any sci. overthere)
waiting my MCAT score..what do you think?? i have all my prereq. and ** from the states so i have about 240 credits from here and there. i don't think that they have something called URM right? btw ,how many month to spend on island? ,i know ross is 16 and SGU is 20 thanks Last edited by fido MD; 07-24-2007 at 08:17 AM. |

I think the admissions committee will take into account your foreign background and high science GPA. The MCAT will play an important role, I hope you score well! Best of luck!
