Your GPA is low and it's not good that you're taking the pre med requirements at a community college. Unless you're working in a healthcare setting, that's probably not going to matter much either. You're going to have to do very well on the MCATs to balance out the GPA. If you do well on the MCATs, you might have a shot at AUC, Saba, Ross, or SGU. You'd have a better chance at one of the easier schools like St. Matthews, but the other schools don't have CA approval, so returning there would not be an option.

I agree with the other comments. You're going to need a solid mid-20's MCAT. You'll also probably need to get some experience in the medical field you can put down as well: shadowing doctors, volunteering, research

I think at some point to gain admission, you would have to prove that you are able to handle the cirriculum and pass the USMLE. I am of the opinion that LOR and extracurriculars would help a borderline case.

Your overall GPA is around the average, although the science is a bit low. Your MCAT is a little below average. You'd probably be a pretty borderline candidate. It's difficult for anyone on this forum to tell you how much emphasis the admissions committee puts on LORs and extracurriculars, but probably more than the US schools.

If I were you, I would wait to re-take the MCATs until you see if the 21 is good enough to get you in. Even if you do well on the MCATs the second time around, you're almost certainly not going to get into a US school with that GPA. So, if you can manage to get into AUC without retaking the MCAT, why waste the money, time, and effort. It only takes a few weeks to get a decision, so it's probably worth a try.

I'm applying right now for August, and I take the MCAT on Monday. The admissions counselor told me that it would be best to get the rest of your app in before you take the test, so that once they get your scores, you'll know as soon as possible. I know that I can't get into a US school unless I got a 35+, so I'm not even trying for that. All I can say is good luck, I'm in the same boat as you.

Requesting assistance.

Graduated with my BSCN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) in Canada with GPA of 2.97 last 4 years, or 3.17 (for last 3 years). Does AUC look at all 4 years? or just 3?

I have not yet wrote my MCAT, but have considered writing it in August/September, but am wondering if I will make the cut off deadline to apply and if my marks are high enough to even be considered?

I always felt my back ground in nursing would aid in my selection in being considered an applicant, but my GPA is what worries me, even if I score a 28+ on the MCAT.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

They will look at whatever's on the transcript. Overall though your GPA is alright. Depends on your MCAT and other material, such as extracurriculars, experience, personal statement, and LORs.

We (former ADCOM member) take letters of recommendation very seriously. But we EXPECT them to be excellent! So, in one sense, in most cases a good LOR doesn't really help you, since naturally it will be good. In rare cases someone who knows you well and can articulate well your positive points and realistically and honestly diminish your negative points can genuinely help. On the other hand, a weak LOR together with a borderline GPA and MCAT can kill the application.

We will look at all four years of grades, but if there has been an improvement in the later years we will certainly notice it, with favor.

Currently, those grades mentioned with a 28 MCAT have a realistic chance of success.

We have several students who practiced as nurses before admission to AUC and were usually very successfull, especially in their later studies.

"I have not yet wrote my MCAT..." Unless English is a second language to you, you must be careful in your essay to use appropriate grammar and spell correctly. Your ability to maintain attention to detail over the long run is being evaluated together with the essay content.

Good luck.
