I was just wondering. It probably doesn't really matter at all. But like I said, you have a great shot. Just apply and see how it goes. Do you have good ECs and LORs?

Hi guys, i'm new to this whole valuemd site but it seems like its reaaaaaaally helpful. I was wondering if anyone could give me their thoughts on a chance of admission based on my marks. First year i messed up reaaaaaaally bad, its not excuse but i never went to class and did all the wrong things, because of that my science gpa is really low with 2.35 and i have a non science gpa of 3.35 but i still have to take the mcat this september and i have TONS of volunteer experience and lab experience.. what do u think my chances are?? thanks

I think if you do well on the MCAT, and maybe retake some science classes (or take more science classes and do well on them) and bring up the science GPA, you'll have a good chance.

It's really impossible to give any kind of guess without MCAT scores since they're just as important as grades. If you do well on the MCAT (mid 20's or above, you'd probably have a good shot. Low 20's or below, I'd be worried. Upward trends are always a good thing though.

That first year is always the toughest and we wish we could erase it. Med schools love to look at those first years when they make decisions. I think if you were doing well with the 3.3 and 3.7 in your later years with upper division sciences then it will be in your favor. However if you have a higher gpa those years because of other non-science classes it wont help you.
You could even take a couple science classes in your CC and they will be factored into your science gpa. That will make a boost if you can take 18 units or so and get As it might get you up to 2.6/2.7 science. The 2.3 science is whats really hurting you right now bro.

Hi guys thanks for your replies! yeah definitely the mcat is going to play a huge factor when it comes to figuring out my chances or whatever.. like i did better in 2nd and 3rd year but because im in life science most of the courses were bio and psych (mainly psych) .. they dont really consider psych as SCIENCE so i dont know, like i fulfilled all my programs requirements so hopefully they'll still see that as an improvement. Do you think if i put on my application that im retaking some of the lower mark courses in the following summer they'll take that as plus and give me at least a conditional offer?

They will average your previous grade with the new one. If much easier if you just take easier science classes at a cc. A science class is a science class to them.
