Thanks for the input. We'll see how this application cycle plays itself out and go from there. Good luck at AUC. I've got my application for AUC filled out and should send it in sometime in December if I'm not getting any interest here in Texas.

Overall GPA: 3.45 (Undegrad 3.3, Grad 3.6)
Science GPA: 3.3
MCAT: 27 T

I am currently applying to all the Texas schools including TCOM, but am trying to keep my options open for Carib as well. I am trying to decide whether to keep trying to pump up my stats for the US schools or go ahead and try for AUC or St. George's. Thanks in advance for your help.
Your MCAT score is good, but it probably needs to be 30+ to compensate for the low undergrad GPA. Like slevit said, you should probably take some more science classes and make A's to raise the undergrad and science GPA. I'm not sure how quickly you want to start med school. Good luck!

No, you do not need a 30+ to compensate for the GPA unless you're talking about the US. Even in the US, a good GPA or MCAT does not really compensate for the other being bad. You need both. Your stats are right about average, maybe above average for the caribbean. There are very few people in the caribbean with a 30+ MCAT.

Definitely seems like a fickle process. I've seen several profiles on mdapplicants with similar stats who have gotten in with no problems, and others who couldn't get a sniff in US allo schools. I've gotten my AUC application filled out and ready to go, but we'll see.

I improved my MCAT from a 25S to the 27T through self-study and wonder how much of a bump I could get by retaking again. My impression is that the law of diminishng returns starts to kick in. Taking more sciences is also a good idea, but the good grades are unlikely to make too much of a difference at this point as I have a lot of undergrad hours to dilute them.

AUC definitely seems like a great school and doesn't sound like a bad backup plan. Thanks for your responses and good luck to you both.

Yeah I was talking about the US. As you said, PT2MD's stats are above average for the Caribbean.

If you really want to stay attend school in Texas, then there probably is no harm in retaking the MCAT but make sure you don't score lower! If you're fine with having DO after your name, then I don't think you'll have much trouble getting into TCOM. According to US News, the average score on each section of the MCAT is 9 for TCOM, so it seems you should be in pretty good shape there.

The average MCAT for students at AUC is 24 according to the school's website. I'm guessing that your MCAT is a little on the low side, but of course you can't take my advice as official. I would definitely retake and try to score in the mid 20s. You're pretty good on the sciences, it's VR that's hurting your score so just work hard and read a lot to get better in that section. Good luck!

You're going to have a rough time with that MCAT. Re-taking it would not be a bad idea. Everything else is good.

It's not unheard of to be accepted with that score. It would probably help if English is the second language though.
