THE problem is this: (and part of the reason I am being a bit ambiguous with the details of my CV)... I have a couple of DWIs from >10 years ago when I was drinking... How forgiving are Carib schools to past criminal offenses (these were all misdemeanors) if a long track record (>10 years) of change has been demonstrated??

I was completely honest in my AMCAS application, but for US schools the Undergrad gpa is just too low to be considered a viable candidate...throw in the other stuff and it is just not going to happen. I have always wanted to be a physician, have worked in basic and clinical research to stay close to the field, currently work in a medical school, etc. Do I have a chance?

Any personal experience or knowledge of others who may have dealt with an issue such as this(with anonymity of course)?

I fully realize that licensing may be an issue, but I at least want to have an opportunity to demonstrate that I am able to accomplish this...
I think you have a chance. A ten year clean record would show that you have changed. Regardless, from what I have been reading on this site, they are not too worried about drunk drivers on Sint Maarten anyway.

it may not be a real issue with the admissions people, just don't lie on the application

I think you stand a good shot. You may be interviewed, but that would probably be good in your situation. Just be honest. Don't worry about the age, there are plenty of older students here, some upwards of 50.

Of all the possibilities in the world, you choose Slacker24 as your nick? []

Just retake the MCAT - it's not impossible to get a 30 & being Canadian myself, I know what a pain admissions to Canadian MD is - but with a 3.8, you owe it to yourself to avoid a lot of the issues by just bunkering down for a couple of weeks & pulling that 30.

I was wondering if any of you guys had any tips on doing well on the verbal portion of the mcat. Having a tough time and havent scored above an 8 in verbal on the practice tests. Didnt want to make a new post, but it seems people add to this post all the time. Thanks.

I liked the exam krackers 101 verbal passages;Amazon.com: Examkrackers 101 Passages in MCAT Verbal Reasoning (Examkrackers): David Orsay: Books
I think the best prep for increasing your verbal score is to get as much practice with reading comprehension as possible. The book has passages of varying difficulty and although I didn't make it through the whole book, I think it was of high enough difficulty to hone your reading skills (I ended up with a 12V). Remember speed is also a crucial factor in the verbal section and you will always get faster with more passages. I also did not go for the typical suggestions of marking up passages and using a lot of notation because I thought that slows you down. Read well and work efficiently.
I also enjoyed the audio osmosis series that was fun to listen to and easy to make your own notes from tapes...although my girlfriend almost killed me for wanting to go to bed every night listening to jordan and jon .

Can you apply to AUC without letters of reccomendations from professors? Or is it like the mcat where it is necessary to have it in the application. Tried to find info in a search, but not successful.

You need letters of rec, at least one from a science prof. I had 1 prof letter and 4 non-traditional letters.

Call MEAS and ask them what you HAVE to have, but I'm pretty sure it's at least one from a professor. Depending on your circumstances they may waive it.
