If you did not do well in high school, chances are slim that you will do well in college, even slimmer that you will do well in medical school. My proof? You already bombed your first two classes even after you said you are "ready to try at life".

If you are considering going anywhere in this world, you will have to work harder to make up for the slacking off you did in high school.

When you have a degree in....something...anything... come back here, and ask for advice. I dont want to give you any false notions of hope.

I sound harsh... But life is harsh if you choose to slack of. Get your act together, and maybe... Just maybe, the harshness will seem to fade away.

first things first.....do the work, get the grades, transfer out of your CC, get a bachelors. if you make it that far, then start thinking about what's next (mcat, where to apply)

no i didn't do horrible in high school i mean i went to a private school and got b's and c's and the classes i took over last summer i shouldn't have i wasn't ready needed a break.

i can get good grades all i have to do is try.

But can you answer my question? is it possible to go if you start at a community college. and should i wait to take the pre-req's at a university?

If your question is "is it possible to start out at a community college and still go to med school", then yes, it is possible. It is a little harder, but it is very doable. I have friends who did just that.

If you take your pre-reqs at a University, it will look better, but you can take them at a CC and still get accepted.

That being said, you need to follow Kemper's advice and focus on where you are now. You need to work on getting your bachelors before you even start thinking med school. And work on your GPA and MCAT before you start looking at the Caribbean. Hope this helps.

It is possible to get all your pre-reqs at a community college. They will be easier (usually) than prereqs taken at a University because community colleges ususally graduate physical therapists and associate degrees in nursing. You will be hard pressed to find many community colleges that boast medical school admissions directly following completion of their program.

For example, in my Organic Chem class at WCU, there were several students who failed out even though they had taken Organic Chemistry at SCC (the local community college) & made A's.

Saying you are capable of getting good grades and actually getting them are two different things. You should make sure you are disciplined enough to handle the medical course load before going thousands of dollars into debt.

Of course, if you come from a very wealthy family that does not mind funding your education, you can fail out and have no loans to repay.

As they've said, it's possible to go to a CC and then transfer and still be accepted into medical school. However, this early in the game, you should be aiming for a US medical school, not the caribbean. And depending on the medical school, it could definitely matter where you took your pre reqs. All A's are not created equal, especially in the eyes of a US med school admissions committee. I would get out of community college and into a university as quickly as possible.

well thanks for the advice but i'm not rich so going to be in debt and i mean while look at what it would take to get in a state school the have the list of classes that you have to have taken the pre reqs..; I just wondered if i could take the 2 yrs at CC then transfer and start taking pre med classes

and how should i go about volunteer work should i just call hospitals and ask if they need a volunteer of some sort?

you really should try to find yourself a pre-med forum... they might be more helpful over there. AUC has no pre-med program, and you are posting in a "what are my chances thread" for when you start applying 4, 5 or even 6 years from now...
