I am in the same boat (poor undergrad GPA), and here is what my admissions counselor emailed to me:

"You know, they do accept ALL college/university transcripts and integrate the grade points into your final GPA. This means that if you attended any other university prior or in conjunction with *my undergrad school*, those would count too. This also means that if you were to take science classes even at a junior college now to bring your GPA up, it would be considered."

hope this helps.

I appreciate your feedback RuseMD, Slevit1, Phantom Professor, and Maverick

Thanks so much RuseMD, Slevit1, and Phantom Professor. Could I ask you guys your background and how you have come to know AUC, your relationship to the school?

Slevit1, I understand that I do have a poor undergrad GPA and that my postbacc GPA does not make up for it....but hopefully they can combine both GPAs for a cumulative one that they take as the official GPA for admission consideration? right?

Yungk, I appreciate your thanks. I'm actually a future applicant. I've been dealing closely with the admissions office about the chancellor's scholarship and provisional acceptance. I'm doing a degree in Biology at Harvard and one at Boston University Medical in Biomedical and Clinical Laboratory Sciences with research integrated. I'm sure they will combine both GPAs for you as that's normally how it's done, imo, but I also suggest you give a call to the admin office. Here's the information on the student profile:

"
90% are U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
4% are Canadians
6% are International
40% are Female students
60% are Male students
98% have Bachelor's degree or pending degree
7% have Master's degree
0% have Doctorate degree
Average Cumulative GPA: 3.2
Average Science GPA: 3.1
Average MCAT: 23

"(AUCMED.edu)

Hope this helps!

Not exactly sure how they calculate GPA with graduate work. In the US, it's not averaged and a low undergrad GPA will leave you just about no chance of acceptance, no matter what you do in grad school. However, like phantomprof said, they do care more at AUC about stuff that US schools don't care about. You probably have a decent shot. And it's definitely worth applying to find out before you potentially waste another year in school.

I was accepted about a year ago and deferred, so i'll be attending this August. As far as background...I've been an EMT and then paramedic for about 9 years now. I also worked quite a bit in ERs as a tech and phlebotomist. So, plenty clinical experience. I got a 27 on the MCAT, but it was really my grades that kept me out of med school in the US. My GPA from undergrad is about a 3.4, but it was a 2.9 according to AMCAS (they average everything, even if you re-take a class). I'm excited to get started though!

What are my chances?

Hey, I'm applying to a few D.O. schools in the US and to AUC. I heard really good things about AUC.

What are my chances:

Current school GPA: 3.22 (Engineering Major)
Overall GPA = 2.99 (includes 2 repeated courses)
MCAT = This Friday! I didn't take a class, I don't have $1700, so I'm worried. :-( I'm hoping/praying for a 24.
BCPM (Bio, Chem, Physics, Math) GPA = 2.87

250+ hours volunteering in clinical setting
Volunteer coordinator
President of Pre-Med group

My chemistry, physics, labs, genetics, biology courses were pretty good, between 3.0 and 4.0 gpa's. I took a lot of math (~30 credits) and that killed my gpa.

Thank you,

-Mike

Your GPA is about average, with your BCPM being a little below average. It's probably going to depend a lot on your MCAT. If you get in the low 20's, it might be close. High 20's or better, you'd have a much better shot.

Also, what semester are you applying for? January and May are easier than August to get accepted to.

Hi
How possible/problematic is it to transfer from another med school, say Ross... (simply bc the island food is making me constantly ill, and the class sizes are ridiculous to deal with now) to AUC.

p.s currently i'm a 2nd semester ..
Thanks

If it's just because of food and convenience, I'd be wary about transferring. Some people on here would say that transferring to another Caribbean school for whatever reason sends up automatic red flags to program directors.

well its not simply bc i need to be in a more developed place and want good food- but everytime i get better, i get sick again here to the point of hospitalization... And as far as specalities, i'm interested in psychiatry or if anything else pediatrics.. not lookin 2 be a surgeon/radiologist etc..do you really think its that detrimental still ?? My health is getting worst here with time..Plus, im from cali- im not considering any other school - and goin from ross to auc ? is that a red flag? theyre about the same ?
