Look to get an above average MCAT to compensate for the GPA (average is 3.1-3.2).

How long did it take them to let you know after you sent them all of your required paperwork?

I want to take some more bio courses but my schedule is loaded with upper level math, chemistry, and atmospheric science courses which I have been doing well in. Do you think lack of solid grades in bio courses as of late will hamper my chances. My overall and science GPAs are around 2.8 and my MCAT is 31.
    Thanks

BTW, I want to enter a January Class after a 6 month research
    My chances anyone?

I took the MCAT in April and bombed it with a 24Q (I was averaging around a 30 on the AMCAS practices tests). My breakdown was 9 PS, 6 VR (I was ranging from 10-13 on practice), and 9 **. I graduated Stony Brook University in 2011 with a 3.28 GPA, with upward trends almost every year. I have volunteer hours at a hospital, shadowed under a physician (LOR), and completed an EMT certification. I'm wondering what kind of chances I have at getting accepted to AUC.

Hi everyone and thank you in advance for giving me the time to air out my concerns. I want to go to AUC but i am 35 and i failed out of college when i was 18 (1.7 gpa as a sophomore !! ) Since that point, i have been successful in other careers but the minute i volunteered in the emergency room 4 years ago i knew it was my calling. I gave up a lucrative job, went back to school three years ago and being more mature, i have a a 3.5 c and a 3.2 s in my last 90 credits. Overall cumulative is still a 2.5 unfortunately and that concerns me. I will take the MCAT in the fall but i have scored in between 28-30 on the practices. I have also quit my 9-5 job and spent 60 + hours a week at night in the ER for 3 years. I have learned so much and my attendings let me help with all kinds of procedures like suturing, putting in central lines, chest tubes, etc, and i could not imagine doing anything else. They all told me that i would be perfect for this job and more importantly, i know that i would be. I guess my biggest question is, will a mistake 20 years ago deter me from getting into medical school ? I apologize for rambling, but this means the world to me and i would love your honest input, if you would be so kind. Thank You..

The fact that you persevered and struggled to get where you are now speaks volumes about your character and dedication to be a doctor. I think a lot of medical schools will admire your determination to keep pressing forward. Good job on finishing strong with gpa, schools like to see an increasing trend. As long as you pull a mid 20's MCAT i don't see any reason you wouldn't get in. YOu have good experience and the desire and fight it takes to succeed in this business best of luck, I'm applying for MAY 2013.!

    Hey guys,

So I graduated with undergrad with about a 2.49 in biological sciences. Since then without wasting anytime I got into a masters (very painfully) granting a MS degree in biological sciences as well focusing on Bacteriology. It is a thesis based masters, I finished here with a 3.4 GPA with 170%+ graduate courseload along with my 40+ hours of lab research for my thesis. I plan on being published as well and I was going to apply to AUC for Jan 2013. Taking my MCAT in about 2 weeks. Averaging around 27-32 depending on which AAMC test I take, realistically should be somewhere around 27-28.

I had a couple questions 1) how do my chances look in terms of applying and getting in? I have heard lower people stats getting in but I feel my undergrad would be the only real big hiccup. Also 2) I have recently heard that AUC is doing a MERP thingy like Ross since DeVry took over, would I be sent for that or do you think I have a shot at direct admission?

Also, If lets say I apply and can get into Ross WITHOUT the MERP and get into AUC with the MERP would it be better to go to Ross, even though AUC is generally considered to be the better school (arguably), in terms of education/residency placements/rotations?

    Thanks in advance!

Undergrad GPA: 2.51 (15 years ago)
First Grad GPA: 3.9 (10 years ago, only 6 credits in history. Took for fun)
Nursing School GPA: 3.08 (7 Years ago)
Master Science Nurse Practitioner GPA: 4.0 at a college with medical university in the name (SUNY Upstate Medical College. This was 3 years ago.)
    Bost Bacc Premed prerequisites: 3.8
    Let's assume a 28+ on MCAT

My undergrad cum for AMCAS is like a 2.7. Science cum is like a 3.5. The post bacc and grad work are a much stronger reflection and came later. I have virtually no shot as US school because of the low GPA. I'll probably apply to DO programs if I can hit over 30 on MCAT just to see if I can get an interview. What do you think this would look like to AUC. Would they see the strong science performance, grad performance, several years of NP experience, good MCAT versus 15 year old low GPA in philosophy.

My bet is 25-26 would suffice
