Fellowships for FP's

FYI for those interested, since this is what I wanted to do had I stayed in FP. There are fellowships here for both EM and Women's Health/OB.

http://www.utmem.edu/tipton/familypr...ellowship.html

I don't know what the website for the OB fellowship is. I think there are several programs that offer fellowships like this around the country, if anyone wants to add to the list.

These would be great for those who want to be rural.

rural residency progams

Faith, Thank you for your posting. As a matter of fact, I will keep this program in mind. I've got some ways to and am aiming for the 2007 match. It's great to get information and to keep an open-mind. Do you see any major disadvantages in a rural residency program, ie. resources, guidance, etc. Dan

Nice

This is really cool. I'm wanting to go into FP but was also thinking about EM. Very intersting. I'm going to look into this.

Long ways till I get there but the more info I can get the better.

Rural residencies

The only possible drawback, I think, would be the number of patients you admit and see. As painful as it is to have lots of admissions during a call period, the more you see, the more you know.

Most of us aren't self-directed readers/studiers... but being that busy forces you to be on top of things.

When looking at rural programs, make sure your rotations (at least some) occur at a major medical center or a hospital that is at least in the 200 bed range.
Check to see that the attendings at the hospital (that you will be working with) are actively involved/interested in resident education.
Also assure that you are allowed to do away rotations - whether it be an inner city emergency dept, a busy OB rotation, trauma or ICU rotation.
