How many hours are spent per day/week in class? Also, on average, how many hours does everyone spend outside of class? Thanks for your inputs!

510 points For first semester: 15 hrs/wk in class & 4 hrs/wk in lab
Out of class: Whatever you can get away with doing.
I think the average med student studies an extra 6-8 hours a day out of class room time. JMO of what I have witnessed so far.
If you just keep telling yourself it's all worth it in the end, perhaps you'll actually believe it.
The golden rule: 2 hrs/class/day...that's what Dr B from Biochem always recommends. Of course, the problem is, during 2nd and 3rd semester, you're in class for 4-5 hrs/ day. And 5th semester? Well, it's crunch time for step!
I haven't studied 6 hours in one day since I've been here (leaving in 5 weeks)
510 points There is no set rule for this. You have to realize that everyone is different. Some people study 6-7 hours a day while others barely study 6 hours before a test and still do well. So it all depends on the person. I think the best thing to do is to go over everything you cover in class everyday...whether it takes you 30 mins or 6 hours. Personally, I don't study everyday. I start studying a few days before a test, and so far, I haven't run into any trouble. I am in 3rd semester right now.
Hope this helps.
everyone has a different system. Some people study until late past midnight. I usually have to finish by 9 or 10 so I can relax and watch TV (and at 6 and 7:30 for Simpsons)
Posterior Fornix.
